Is Frankfurt airport easy to navigate? ›

Navigating your way around Frankfurt's very large airport can be confusing, especially if you're in a rush, however there is clear overhead signage in both German and English to help direct passengers through the airport.

All concourses at both terminals are connected (both landside and airside) by a free Sky Train (monorail). There is also a free shuttle bus. Luggage carts are not allowed on the Sky Train. The transfer between Terminal 1 and 2 on foot takes around 15 minutes.

Lufthansa and all its partners are located under one roof in Terminal 1 and at Pier A, which has been built exclusively for Lufthansa. Both terminals are only a few minutes away from each other by shuttle bus or by the "SkyLine" elevated railway.

You are arriving from outside the Schengen Area and your destination is in a non-Schengen country: Usually no passport check is mandatory, provided that you do not leave the transit zone. Depending on your nationality, you may require a transit visa.

Shuttle buses between the terminals

You can take shuttle buses between Terminals 1 and 2. They are free of charge and run every 10 minutes - daily and around the clock. It takes about 10 minutes to get from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2. Alternatively, you can use the SkyLine train to transfer between the terminals.

MInimum time to rest and/or refresh and leave the airport and visit Frankfurt: six hours. This left about two and a half to three hours to explore the old town in Frankfurt and then head back to the airport. You can still do this with a six hour layover; you just won't have time to rest.

Arrival Terminal

Flights operated by ANA group will arrive at Terminal 1 of Frankfurt Airport. On level 3 (Hall B) of Terminal 1, there are Immigration booths, Customs (1), escalators and elevators.

Do I have to go through customs for a connecting flight? ›

Most (but again, not all) airports connect international terminals airside. When you're connecting from an international flight to a domestic one, you'll always have to exit and reenter security as you'll need to go through customs and immigration (unless you have gone through preclearance aboard, which is rare).

As at most international airports in Europe, all of the passport control officers will speak English. I was there a month ago, speak no German, and had no problem communicating with them.
