Head of Alternative Provision and Section 19 (2024)

This is a unique opportunity to develop our children and young people’s future whilst you progress your own career.

I am excited by the opportunity to appoint to this pivotal role in our Inclusion senior leadership team. I joined North Yorkshire a year ago and know first-hand that the ambition for young people here is resolute.

In North Yorkshire, we believe that every child should have the opportunity to reach their full potential. Our aspiration is for all children and young people to be happy, healthy and achieving.
We also believe that children and young people with additional needs and vulnerabilities should have the opportunity to access high quality education that prepares them for the next steps in their life and that they should have access to the support they need to achieve their longer-term ambitions. We are ambitious in our plans to make sure high-quality local provisions meet the identified care and educational needs of children and young people.

The inclusion service is made up of a range of complementary services including the specialist disabled children’s service, four multidisciplinary locality hubs, and the statutory SEND teams. We undertake statutory assessments for Education, Health and Care Plans and offer holistic support for children and young people with special educational needs and / or disabilities, or who are struggling to fully participate in school for reasons of ill health, exclusion. This new role will offer a dedicated strategic focus on how we meet our statutory duties for the increasing numbers of young people who are struggling to attend school, as well as operational lead for the services that support them.

This vision for the education provision for children and young people with SEND builds on both the Local Area SEND Strategy and the Being Young in North Yorkshire plan. Our SEND Strategy is an ambitious three-year plan, which describes how we intend to transform services and educational provision for children and young people in North Yorkshire.

Like I was, you will be welcomed by a talented team, optimistic about the future and ambitious for our children and young people.

I would encourage you to speak with us to ignite your interest further, we look forward to your application and ultimately you joining us.

North Yorkshire is a thriving county that adapts to a changing world and remains a special place to live and work.

North Yorkshire's natural beauty is captured in its three areas of outstanding natural parks, national nature reserves, stunning coastlines, scenic rural villages, vibrant cities and market towns. North Yorkshire really is a beautiful, thriving and special place to live and work, rich in heritage and culture.

North Yorkshire features significantly in the ten best places to live in the UK in Halifax Quality of Life Survey. The Quality of Life index aims to quantify where living standards are highest in the UK by ranking local performance across a range of indicators. Local areas featured in the top ten included Richmond, Selby and Malton.

Figures released by the Office for National Statistics bulletin positions North Yorkshire as the safest place in England with extremely low crime rates.

In addition, the county benefits from excellent road and rail links, with easy access via the east coast mainline, the A1(M) and A19. Leeds, York, Newcastle, Durham and Teesside are all easily commutable, and London and Edinburgh are just two hours away by train.
